Training Program
SPECT's training program is designed for health care workers responsible for infection prevention and sterile processing practices, including cleaning, packaging, sterilizing and storing of surgical instruments.
Our course is comprised of PowerPoint presentations, hands-on practical demonstrations and peer-to-peer training activities. It's modified to be culturally and contextually appropriate for each country we work with.

Communicate foundational steps of the sterile processing cycle.

Review the scientific-based evidence that internationally recommended guidelines are based upon.

Explain proper care and handling of surgical instruments, from point-of-use to sterile storage and transportation.

Provide health care workers with an opportunity to teach others and receive constructive feedback on their teaching skills.

Microbiology
Basic concepts of microbiology and the relationship between microorganisms and sterilization practices.
Infection Prevention and Control
The chain of transmission and the concept of routine practices to prevent infection.
Introduction to Sterile Processing
A general overview of the principal functions of a sterile processing department.
Cleaning Surgical Instruments and Medical Devices
The most important step in the reprocessing cycle is proper cleaning.
Instrument Inspection, Function Testing and Assembly
Identify instrument inspection points and review procedures to prepare contents for packaging.
Aseptic Packaging Techniques
Review means, practices and procedures to package items for sterilization and prevent contamination from pathogens.
Disinfection Levels and Types of Disinfectants
Types of disinfectants commonly used and their purposes.
High and Low Temperature Sterilization
Important process parameters and factors that impact the effectiveness of sterilization.
Sterile Storage and Transport
Procedures for moving sterile items in and out of storage without cross-contamination.
